Oiling the Door itself

The door should be oiled about 2 times a year . You need only oil the hinges themselves. wheel guides can be oiled as well but the important part is the hinge itself. do not neglect the hinges in the middle of the door .hinge image

Safety Sensor Alignment

The safety sensors detect objects that are in the way of the door usually placed 6 to 8 inches over the floor. THese sensors have 2 parts a sending unit and a receiving unit. the signal between the sending and receiving unit creates a current peak at a regular frequency that the computer in the motor unit looks for. If there is a short in a wire or any interruption the current line goes flat and the computer instructs the door to go up only and not down. Fall Is the season we have the most trouble with these, the spiders move in and leaves get caught in the webs and block the signal. be sure there is a steady light in both sensors.Oten bags of garden supplies placed in corners and forgotten start to sag and get in front of sensors or a rake or broom is left in the way . its best not to use the corner by the tracks for storing things like that sensors chamberlain image

Changing Batteries in Keypads and Remotes

Once every 5 years or so the battery dies in a keypad or remote. The remote has a ROM chip in it that requires power to "remember" your code. Changing the battery blanks the device and it will need to be "re linked" to your opener. Remotes are relatively easy! There is on your wall switch or on the back of the unit a learn button on the opener itself it will be red or orange purple or green and in the newer ones a small yellow button .Genie openers usually have a small black button behind the light disburser that may need a screwdriver to get to.Some Chamberlain/Lift master switches have learn buttons so you don't have to climb a ladder. wall switch imgsimply push the learn button in either location (the wall switch needs a few seconds to register) and then click the button on your device that you want to link you will see the lights blink or hear a click when the link is made. holding the learn button for 30 seconds will erase the computer in the opener and require you to re link every device including built in car devices. Be careful to push the learn button only briefly. Key pads are more complicated, the instructions are usually under the weather cover. On type 2 devices it is only necessary to hit the learn button quickly put in your 4 numbers and hold the enter button until you hear the click. Universal keypads sometimes need several pushes on the enter button to cycle through the 10 or so possible frequency's that may be used by your device. Genie keypads are a bear to program! and it is best to have a cell phone and the number to genie support keypadinstruction.pdf 1-800-354-3643 . Unfortunately Genie seems to pick the most complicated and user unfriendly path possible. If you try one on your own trust me it's them not you!

The number of pushes on the enter button of the universal keypads or remote buttons are as follows. On the 2 button universal remotes .you must slide the bottom open and push the small program button located inside on the left (its small and hard to see) first, then push the button to program the required number of times all others require the enter button to be pushed

On the back of your opener the round or square learn button has a color, these are the number of pushes you need to select the frequency ; 8 pushes yellow button - 2 pushes red or orange - 3 pushes purple button - 4 pushes green button - 5 pushes for genie 1995 to current -6 pushes for Genie 2005 to current - 7 times for Stanley.

The sensitivity settings are counter intuitive #9 is the least sensitive and #1 is most sensitive. Normal range is between 5 and 7forse settings image

As pulleys wear out, the door will bind and jerk awawardly causing weight shifts that fool the door into thinking it has hit something. this will require a force ajustment or a replacement of the pulleys. Another sign of pulley wear is frayed cables.
